Katie A speech-language pathologist for Learn It in California

“I love my Learn It team. I know that I am fully supported by many people who want me to be successful in helping my students to the best of my abilities.”

What is your role in the organization?

I am a clinician in several schools where I work with children with a range of ages and needs – preschool through 6th grade, articulation through autism.  I have also had the opportunity to assume some leadership activities within the organization such as presenting at several conferences.

What is a typical day on the job?

A typical day on the job includes a mix of small group therapy sessions, push-in carry-over services in the classroom, teacher collaboration meetings, parent conversations and IEP meetings.  No two days are ever alike – and that keeps it interesting!

What is the most interesting part of your job?

The most interesting part of my job is listening to my students and hearing the funny and insightful things they say.  I never know if I may hear about “munchy cereal” or “paparazzi teeth” when I show up for work in the morning!

What advice would you offer potential candidates in your field?

My advice would be to look for a strong team.  Collaboration is key for both your students and yourself.  Find what population you love, find a team that you love and you are well on your way to a rewarding career.

If you could sum up working for Learn It in three words what would they be?

Partnership. Confidence. Refreshing.
