Michael Maloney

FOUNDER & CEO

Michael is the founder and CEO of Learn It Systems. With more than 15 years of experience in the educational services sector, Michael previously directed all national school partnership development activities for Catapult Learning, a division of Sylvan Learning, and led the establishment of the company’s No Child Left Behind (NCLB) supplemental services programs in more than 50 school districts nationwide. Prior to his education work, Michael worked at the Smithsonian Institution where he steered the production of more than 150 educationally-focused recordings, including six Grammy Award nominated and three Grammy Award winning recordings.  Michael is passionate about education and lives in Baltimore, Maryland with his wife and three children. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Catholic University of America.


Don Scheeler

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, SPECIALIZED SERVICES

Don oversees all specialized services at Learn It Systems. He brings to the company more than 25 years of experience in operations, finance, and human resources in the education industry. Don spent 15 years with the Sylvan/Educate family of companies and served as the President and CEO of Progressus Therapy (a national provider of school-based therapy) and the General Manager for the higher education startup 2U (formerly 2tor). Don holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Maryland and a Masters in Business Management from the Johns Hopkins University.


Justin Funches

VICE PRESIDENT

Justin is a Vice President with Learn It Systems where he manages portions the organization’s autism business and also leads company-wide marketing and strategic partnership efforts. He previously served as a Vice President with Progressus Therapy, a national provider of school-based therapy, and chairman of the Boston Preparatory Public Charter School. Justin holds an Masters in Business Administration and Bachelors of Arts in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University.


Carmen Howard

VICE PRESIDENT, HUMAN RESOURCES

Carmen leads Learn It Systems’ talent management efforts, including recruitment, training, and staff development. Prior to joining Learn It in 2014, Carmen held senior HR leadership positions at Tissue Banks International, AAI Corporation, PayPal and Educate/Sylvan. Carmen holds a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from Old Dominion University.


Russell Lum

VICE PRESIDENT, TECHNOLOGY

Russell oversees all aspects of technology at Learn It Systems, including vision, strategy, and execution across its many divisions. He brings to the job 16 years of information technology experience in K-12 education, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and telecommunications. Prior to joining Learn It, Russell was the Executive Director of Technology for Education Station, a division of Educate, Inc. He received his Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from West Virginia University and holds the Microsoft certifications MCP, MCSD, and MCAD.


Lara A. Lazear

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION

Lara serves as Learn It Systems’ Executive Director of Special Education. With over 16 years of experience in the field of special education, Lara oversees program implementation and quality. She holds a Masters of Science in Communication Disorders from Arizona State University and a Bachelors of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology (cum laude) from Northern Arizona University. She is currently Hanen certified in It Takes Two To Talk and More Than Words, and is trained in telepractice by Waldo County General Hospital, the only speech therapy telepractice program accredited by the American Telemedicine Association (ATA).


Marybeth Jones

VICE PRESIDENT, ACADEMIC INTERVENTION

Marybeth oversees all Title I programs for private/non-public schools for Learn It Systems. With more than 17 years of experience in the field of education, Marybeth began her career as an elementary school teacher with Chicago Public Schools and brings a passion for teaching and learning to the job. She holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Illinois State University.
